Venue Space

Our story

It started in a hotel ballroom.

Venue Space is made by φ, a company that builds intelligent software for the people who run real places. Hospitality came first. The software followed.

The Carrollton Inn in Carroll, Iowa had fifty rooms, a busy sportsbar, a lounge people actually went to, and a ballroom that made it the place to get married if you wanted your guests to stay the night and let their kids swim in the morning.

Our founder, David Pedelty, started there at 15, setting up and tearing down that ballroom for weddings, bussing tables and washing dishes. His father, and later his sister, ran the Inn as general manager.

He went on to spend 25 years running hospitality operations, and today develops and manages hotels. But one question kept coming back after every wedding: why can’t a couple look up a venue’s availability and reserve their date online?

What if the venue confirmed, and the couple’s own page opened with a countdown to their day? A planner answered their questions at any hour. Their RSVPs pointed to a wedding page where friends and family shared photos. And the venue ran all of it, bookings, couples, guests and website, from one place.

So we built it.

When his father, now 80, saw it, he said, “Dave, you know how much time this would have saved me back in the day? We would have loved this.”
